Overview:

The Section Chief, Adult Diabetes will provide administrative, clinical, and academic leadership to the Adult Diabetes section of Joslin Diabetes Clinic.



Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall leadership to the Adult Diabetes section of the Joslin Clinic.
  • Motivate toward optimal performance of the faculty, as measured by clinic productivity, and provide the administrative leadership needed to drive operational efficiency and clinical excellence of the section.
  • Provide academic leadership and mentoring that promotes scholarly activity among members of the section to ensure innovation and advances in care and education and to maintain the academic standards for which the Joslin Clinic and Harvard Medical School are renowned.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring in clinical research by developing and implementing a plan to integrate clinical research with clinical practice, and by ensuring active participation in  research by faculty, fellows and students.
  • Act as an attending physician and participate in teaching activities of the Clinic, Department of Medicine at the Beth Israel Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. 
  • Work collaboratively with other section chiefs to ensure appropriate cross sectional care of patients and to ensure support of Joslin’s innovative multi-disciplinary approach to care.
  • Work effectively with colleagues in the Research and Strategic Initiatives Divisions to ensure smooth interactions across all activities of the Joslin Diabetes Center and communicate the Clinic point of view.
  • Work effectively with colleagues at BIDMC to promote the goals of  the joint diabetes-endocrine training program and collaborative patient care.


Qualifications:
  • M.D., Board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.
  • Sufficient seniority in the field of diabetes and endocrinology to be appointed Associate or Full Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
  • Recognized national or international clinical leader in diabetes.
  • Possess a focus in one or more specific areas of clinical diabetes care and be prepared to identify and implement modern approaches and new technologies that are appropriate to each of these areas.
  • Have experience in one or more aspects of clinical research, such as clinical trials, health outcomes and health services research and translational research.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to interact with peers and staff, fiscal and operational aspects of administrative responsibilities such as ensuring accountability in clinical and scholarly activities, staff development, and budget management.
  • Effective communication skills are needed to share information and influence other section heads and internal/external colleagues as well as to mentor and develop medical staff, fellows and students.
