The Study Coordinator, Medalist Study (Vascular Cell Biology) will coordinate the 50-Year Medalist Study, a 1,000 person longitudinal clinical research study that began in 2005. The study coordinator will manage the primary Medalist Study and its associated studies. This individual will recruit patients, handle biological specimens, maintain study data, prepare study communications, ensure IRB compliance and approval and conduct independent research.


  • Works closely with principal investigators to coordinate all aspects of 3 active studies associated with the Medalist Program (50-Year Medalist Study, Organ Donation Study Organ Donation Study & Microbiome)
  • Organizes, scans and files study participant and Medalist application files. Administers study questionnaires and collects patient data
  • Carries 24-hour on-call pager for half of each month for post-mortem organ donation study
  • Processes biological specimens from over 120 patients/ year
  • Tracks and ships over 2,000 samples for assays every year
  • Maintains over 30,000 blood and tissue samples between 4 freezers using Freezer Works software
  • Enters data for over 120 study participants/ year
  • Designs and maintains over 20 study databases in REDcap, Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Assists in cleaning and preparing study data for analyses
  • Assist in awarding 25, 50, 75, and 80-Year Joslin awards (approximately 350/ year)
  • Prepares IRB documents and applications, maintains regulatory binders
  • Manages summer students and temporary office staff
  • Edits grants and funding applications
  • Represents the study and presents data at scientific conferences and meetings
  • Represents the study to various news and media outlets
  • Assists in planning Medalist Celebrations every other year


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical research experience 
  • Microsoft Office, REDcap
  • FreezerWorks experience preferred but will train
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Independent worker who is highly motivated
  • Ability to work in high stress, fast paced environment
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, timeliness
