We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Assistant II/Lab Manager (Integrative Physiology and Metabolism) who is motivated and a self-starting individual to join a lab doing cutting edge, exciting basic science research related to diabetes and metabolic disease. The individual should have a background in physiology, metabolism, molecular biology and/or cell biology. Work in the lab centers around basic mechanisms of insulin action and its alterations in diabetes, obesity and metabolic disease. This includes studies of insulin signaling and metabolism in tissues throughout the body, and how this process is modified by obesity, the gut microbiome, and epigenetic factors. We also study adipose tissue biology. Our experiments use a wide variety of research methods and procedures. Two major components of the job will be cell culture and mouse physiology experiments.
Overseeing laboratory activities; cooperative work with research fellows; handling and studying small lab animals; collection and processing tissue; performance of biochemical, enzymatic, molecular, immunological and physiological tests; occasional use of radioactive tracers; maintaining and organizing records; calculating, compiling and graphing data; and preparation of presentations and reports. Experience with molecular biology and DNA engineering would also be desirable.
