Overview

The Receiving and Materials Handler will receive, log and distribute all incoming and outgoing freight. Direct responsibility for entering the receipts of all incoming freight onto the Purchasing system and communicating with lab managers about incoming and outgoing freight needs. Direct responsibility for the receipt and affixing of asset tags as required by Center policy. Central supply ordering and central services project support such as conference room set up. Provide support and backup for glass washing and mail delivery. Direct responsibility for inter-building transport services. Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment. Assure that all practices are performed in accordance with established procedures

Responsibilities

Shipping/Receiving:

  • Coordinate loading dock activity. Make certain counts are accurate.
  • Open, sort and prioritize incoming freight assuring perishable items are managed properly.
  • Deliver packages and communicate with and help lab managers and staff with freight questions.
  • Prepare, enter and process receiving documents using the electronic purchase management system.
  • Maintain Filing systems within receiving area.
  • Respond, research and resolve inquiries and purchase order problems from internal staff and external vendors.
  • Obtain return authorization from Purchasing Agent and prepare shipments for return to vendor.
  • Keep track of new assets and tag new equipment as it arrives.
  • Provide transport of research items (samples, equipment etc.) between the different Joslin locations (CRC, Clinics, CLS and Administration). 
  • Provide support to central research operations such as conference room and kitchen/event set ups and handle some central supply ordering as directed.
  • Back-up for glass washing services and mail delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum of two years experience in a shipping and receiving environment
  • Good communication skills, data entry skills. Knowledge of e-mail, excel, and purchase management software a plus
